DIY french country wine basket

DIY French Country WINE BASKET

I found this cute little basket at goodwill for a mere $2.00! But- it needed some jazzing up!
I have seen painted baskets lots of places with burlap accents- decided to make one for myself!!!!

first I just got  a .96 can of white spray paint and sprayed the basket...*don't forget to use spray paint in a well ventilated area*

I next measured the area where I wanted to place the burlap- then, I  cut the burlap to the measurements of the basket- laid down some craft paper and taped the burlap to hold it in place. This way I can stamp my design without staining my table!

I used foam letter stamps- but stencils also work well on burlap- I used a small container of white acrylic paint approx. $1 at Pat Catans-

Since I am a fan of all things French since taking French in High School- I googled French wines and picked one that sounded good to me- along with a nice foam stamped impression of a fleur de lis

I attached the burlap to the basket with some pretty decorative brads- and its the perfect addition to my Country French style dining room!

All that's left to do is continue collecting wines and Italian sodas to fill it up! <3
I am really feeling some nice reds this season...
and the approximate cost of this beauty? $5.00!!!!
enjoy and I hope that you all enjoyed your holiday weekend!

DIY recycled pedestal tray

 DIY RECYCLED PEDESTAL TRAY
made from an old chipped cake dome and
an old oil pan

This cake stand with dome had seen its glory days- and now lay abandoned in my basement with a huge chip in it & this metal oil pan had also seen better days- my mom had actually already painted this for me to turn into a serving tray - Then she  came up with this fab idea- turn it in to an awesome pedestal tray!

I used my go to adhesive -E 6000- I used liberally along the edge on the glass cake stand and let it dry (upside down) overnight- be careful to follow the E6000 directions or it may not hold properly!

 and voila the finished pedestal!

I love the glass/metal combination- and it fits in with the  cottage
style that I have going on my front porch

This year I decided to go with an all white theme for fall on my front porch, and this tray was a perfect accent!

I just used a single strand of white berries and wrapped them in a circle

 - dropped in the mini pumpkin gourds I picked up at my local grocery store- 2 for a dollar!
such a lovely fall scene I am trying to conjure up some peace this
fall season....

and what to do with the leftover cake dome? it was still in good shape with no  chips or cracks- so I paired it with this cute vintage metal tray that I already had(you can see my selection of vintage metal trays for sale at my etsy shop www.MimisSuitcase.etsy.com)
I think I just might have to bake something to go under it today!

saturday morning mash up

I have been wanting to blog all week----didn't happen!!!!! so here is the Saturday morning mash up of everything that I wanted to do all week!!!!!

Starting with the lovely collection of vintage souvenir state plates that I snagged at a local thrift!
wouldn't they make a lovely display? They are all currently for sale on my etsy shop

next up- as promised, a few shots of my new digs! This lovely island was left here-
Its perfect for displaying some of my favorite  collections- my newest love- milk glass chickens

I got that lovely brown tea pot at thrift for a mere $5
resale value-$40 to 60!!!

so many great place to display- my house was built in the 1920s but the kitchen and bathroom were added on later- with plenty of built in shelving everywhere!
including this super cute shelf above my bathroom closet(below)

check out the amazing table my dad made from me from old barn wood! most of his creations are more primitive looking than this, but he put a shabby chic spin on it just for me! The metal wine rack was once a milk crate- bought @ my friend Susans' shop- Home Sweet Home for a song-

and how about this custom made  valance- made by my dear friend- Carol Cox- check her out on facebook and in Hartville Ohio at One Vintage Lane
I am loving this place and this town- and having so much fun decoratinf and organizing-
pics of the upstairs to follow soon

and last but definitely not least my ultimate Friday favorite- the pumpkin spice latte from everyones' first coffee love- STARBUCKS-
and its been around for 10 years this year- I know that I have been enjoying its pumpkin cinnamon goodness for at least 6 of those years!!!
so when I saw this lovely PSL 10 travel mug, I had to have one-
fall isn't fall without you- <3 thanks Starbucks!!!!

Friday Favorites: Hummus

I have been mulling over a way to share my favorites- whether its a product, food, book shop....whatever... and I came up with this- every friday i am going to share a favorite here- therefore- i call it friday favorites!
this week whats on my mind is HUMMUS!
I usually like to make my own- and my FAVORITE  hummus recipe so far is the south beach diet recipe for hummus(crazy, right?) but in a pinch or a wicked craving for hummus.. this is my go to favorite

Sabra olive tapenade hummus is to die for! I could eat this flavor by the bucketful! always, always without fail delish and fresh! Thank you Sabra!!!!

So, today, i revolved my lunch around my brand spankin new container of sabra- healthy mediteranean-ish yummyness! I am so trying to get back into the healthy lifestyle that I once had- and this meal was fulfilling and i feel good after eating instead of bloated and/or greasy!
hope you enjoy my first ever FRIDAY FAVORITES section!
have a happy, healthy weekend!!!!

long time-no blog

 long time, no blog....
so many life changes right now...
including sending my baby girl off to college-
12 hours away to Springfield Missouri
nothing seems more timely or true than this song by Joni Mitchell I sang to her as baby...
nothing is as certain as change-
and this one is as bittersweet as it could be

and to challenge myself further....because that huge change wasn't enough...

we made a good move to a new town... Medina,Ohio
all I can say is I love my new house and I love this town!
Many blog posts to follow....

next up first though, will be pics of my new abode...hopefully first thing next week!
have a great weekend- I cant wait to share my families new adventures!

pretty and functional DIY storage

Remember this dresser that I took the drawers out of???
(see Fairy Garden post)
I finally repurposed it into a shelving unit!!!

I first measured the inside of the drawers to cut wood to make shelves- i am not so good with a saw so my dad cut  the wood for me!

we painted the wood and the inside trim a cream color(it was a color that I already had a quart of)- then Mr. Jackson nailed the wood to the inside of the dresser

I really wanted some lighter colored baskets but I already had these baskets- and free is for me!

voila! perfect storage for all the little items that these  boys of mine like to scatter all over my house...teaching them to take care of their belongings and clean up after themselves...= happy mama!!!
I love making something unused into something pretty and useful
not to mention that around here, storage is the name of the game!!!

summertime.....the livins easy part2

For this mama of 3 summer time is all about having fun and learning something new!!!!

Brady is learning to play tennis- I think he has a very tennis pro stance- dont you? Our local High School Coach and some of the kids from the high school tennis team have been doing a FREE(that's what I am talkin' bout) tennis clinic this summer!

Our local park system has a FREE(there's that word I love) program for kids where they get to go right out into nature to learn! They even have a cute little pledge they say about vowing to take care of the earth for future generations! love it! As you can see HUGH wasnt quite so enthused to have mama taking yet ANOTHER picture... i cant help myself!

YEE-HAW! vbs was a wild west round up! and my oldest- Sierra was a camp volunteer!

Our favorite place to swim- Dogwood Pool in North Canton Ohio- has the best fun area for the wee ones! as you can see my sweet little Hugh is lovin every minute of it!!!!

Another place I love! COSI science museum in Columbus Ohio- lots of fun for the family-

Last, but not least, nothing beats a fire on a cool summer night- except for a fire and S'mores! the messier the better! Mr. Jackson got a little carried away with the size of the fire...maybe he was thinking about blowing smoke signals?

I love these lazy, fun summer days and nights and cherish the extra time we have together-
SHARE with me your summer adventures in the comments, i would love to hear about them!
